Ranbaxy was incorporated in India in the year 1961. The company was started by Ranbir Singh (Ranbir) and Gurbax Singh (Gurbax), and was initially a distributor for Shionogi and Co. Ltd., a Japanese pharmaceutical company. Bhai Mohan Singh (Bhai Mohan) bought Ranbaxy from Ranbir and Gurbax in 1952.
